Recently a few of my clients have came across a SEO company that claims they will deliver hundreds of blog posts on a monthly basis.
In theory, this sounds simply amazing. I mean who wouldn’t want hundreds of posts every month that are optimized for search engines and can potentially drive tons of traffic to your website.
However, the content that was delivered was simply garbage! I mean take a look at this snippet below and tell me if it even makes sense to you…
“We’ve an opportunity today they definitely do not miss out on this opportunity is one the most phenomenal most incredible opportunities that somebody the market can give themselves if you want get help today don’t wait don’t hesitate pick up the phone give us a call today so that we can helping every way possible reach out and touch base with us because we want provide everything needed ever want or need.”
Why Quality Content Matters In SEO
Besides being legible for the reader, the quality of the content you post on your website tells Google and consumers a lot.
I know that if I came across a page with illegible text, like the snippet above, I would simply hit the back button. I don’t have time to try and make sense of that non-sense and if that is the first impression I have of a business, well I’m not doing business with them.
So after all this effort (if any) this company put into these 100’s of blog post for SEO purposes, what is the outcome? Well, the company that wrote the blog posts was able to achieve top rankings for some very long tailed keywords.
However, by taking a look at the data below from Google Analytics, you can see the drastic results garbage content has on a website. Before the garbage content started being posted towards the beginning of May 2018, this website was seeing a bounce rate of roughly 52%. A few months after the blog posts were made we saw a 26% increase in bounce rate.
Additionally, because our bounce rate was on the way up we started loosing some rankings. As you can see below, our Google organic traffic decreased by 52% during the time period. If that isn’t bad enough, the loss of quality traffic from Google organic searches resulted in a 72% drop in leads!
Don’t Take Shortcuts With Content!
If you’re going to write blog posts, or hire a company to do it for you, make sure they are actually putting in the time to write quality content.
Illegible content is garbage and it is only going to hurt your rankings in the long term. I would rather have 2 quality blog post per month that people engage with than have 100s of posts a month that make absolutely no sense at all.
