How a Mortgage Broker
Became an SEO Expert
I discovered SEO in 2005 out of necessity. I was a mortgage loan officer and the industry ran on referrals -- but I wanted to generate my own leads, on my own terms. So I taught myself search engine optimization and built a system that worked. The leads came in consistently, and more importantly, I had built something that was entirely mine.
For nearly a decade I applied that same approach inside the mortgage industry -- building and running digital marketing campaigns, generating qualified leads, and watching SEO compound into a real competitive advantage for the companies I worked with.
Then the industry changed. Regulations tightened. Mortgage professionals were increasingly limited to a profile page on a company website they could not optimize, could not control, and could not use to build an independent lead pipeline. The thing I had built my career around -- the ability to drive my own business through search -- was no longer possible inside that world.
So in 2015, I left. Not reluctantly -- with purpose.
That same year, I lost my daughter Kira. She passed away in 2015 while I was completing my Digital Marketing degree at the Minnesota School of Business. This business was built in her memory -- a reminder that the work we do matters, that time is not guaranteed, and that doing something with purpose is the only way worth doing it.
I launched this practice the same year I lost her. Every client I take on, every result I deliver, every problem I solve carries that weight -- and that intention. This is not just a business. It is something I built to mean something.
Since then I have spent every year deepening my expertise -- through the rise of content marketing, the evolution of technical SEO, Google's algorithm shifts, the emergence of AI search, and now the new frontier of Generative Engine Optimization. I have watched trends come and go and built a practice around what actually works long-term, not what is fashionable for a quarter.
