The playbook
How I approach SEO
No secrets and no black boxes. Here’s exactly how I do the work, and why each step matters.
01Start with what Google can actually see
Before writing a single word of new content, I look at your site the way Google does. Can every important page be crawled and indexed? Are there duplicate versions of pages competing with each other? Are old URLs redirecting properly, or quietly leaking the authority you built years ago?
Then speed. Google measures real-world experience with Core Web Vitals: how fast the main content loads (LCP), how quickly the page responds to a tap (INP) and how much the layout jumps around (CLS). Slow, heavy sites lose rankings and customers at the same time.
Technical problems are invisible to most business owners, and they can suppress every other SEO effort. Fixing them first means everything that follows actually counts.
02Target searches that make money, not just traffic
Not all keywords are equal. Someone searching “how to unclog a drain” is learning. Someone searching “drain cleaning Elk River” is ready to call. I separate informational, commercial and local intent and prioritize the searches closest to a buying decision.
Every important search gets mapped to one page on your site. That keyword map stops your own pages from competing with each other (a common, silent ranking killer) and shows exactly where new pages are needed.
I also study who’s ranking now and why: how deep their content goes, how their site is structured, and where they’re weak. The fastest wins usually come from the gaps competitors left open.
03Build pages that deserve to rank
Google’s job is to show the most helpful result. So the goal isn’t to “optimize” a thin page. It’s to make the best page for that search: clear answers, real expertise, pricing guidance where it makes sense, photos of your actual work, and an obvious next step.
On-page work covers the details that tie it together: title tags people want to click, headings that match how people search, internal links that pass authority to your money pages, and schema markup that tells search engines exactly what each page is about.
04Earn authority instead of buying it
Links from other websites are still one of Google’s strongest trust signals, and also where most SEO shortcuts get businesses penalized. I build authority the durable way: local sponsorships and partnerships, supplier and association listings, genuinely useful content other sites reference, and digital PR.
No private blog networks, no link farms, no packages of 500 links for $99. Those shortcuts work right up until they don’t, and recovering from a penalty costs far more than doing it right the first time.
05Measure what actually matters
Rankings are a means, not the goal. I connect Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4 and your lead sources so we can see which pages and searches bring in calls, forms and sales.
Every month you get a short, plain-English report: what moved, why it moved, what it’s worth, and what’s next. If something isn’t working, you’ll hear it from me first, along with the plan to fix it.

How long does SEO take to work?
Most clients see meaningful movement in 3–6 months, with results compounding after that. Technical fixes can show impact within weeks; competitive keywords take longer.
What does SEO cost?
It depends on how competitive your market is and how much needs to be done. After a free discovery call I’ll recommend a monthly scope and price. There are no setup fees and no long-term contracts.
Do you require a long-term contract?
No. Everything is month-to-month. You stay because the results are worth it.
Will I work with you or a junior employee?
With me. I do the strategy and the work myself. There’s no account manager in the middle.
Can you work on my existing website?
Yes. I work on WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix and custom sites. If your platform is genuinely holding you back, I’ll tell you, but a rebuild is never required to start.
Do you guarantee #1 rankings?
No honest SEO can guarantee a specific ranking. I do guarantee transparent work, clear reporting and a strategy aimed at the results that matter to your business.

Jeremy worked with my web providers and stuck with it until they got it right. He did a great job on both issues. Highly recommend Jeremy!!”
